Reading, mostly
Reports, clips, screenshots, logs. Someone tells you what happened, someone else tells you something different, and you work out which parts both of them agree on. That is the bulk of it and it is quieter than people expect.
Worth reading properly. Most applications we turn down are from people who wanted something the role does not involve.

Every call you make, you should be able to say why. Not "because it felt like RDM", but what you saw, what rule it touches and what you did about it. If you cannot explain it, it was probably the wrong call.
Be honest with yourself about this one. Time spent on staff work is time not spent in the city as your own character. Plenty of people find that trade worth it. Plenty do not.
Staff get held to the ruleset more tightly than anyone, not less. Nothing you do in the city is overlooked because of the role, and the role is removed faster than it is given.
You will handle reports involving people you play with daily. If you cannot be relied on to treat a friend exactly as you would a stranger, say so now rather than finding out in public later. Question nine on the form is about this and it is not a trick.
Being staff gives your character nothing. No money, no vehicles, no access, no information. The two are kept completely apart and using one for the other is the fastest way out of the team.
The minimum word counts are there so nobody gets rejected for writing three lines without realising. They are a floor, not a target. A tight two hundred words beats a padded four hundred every time, and we would far rather read something honest than something polished.
You need to be whitelisted and in the Discord first. We cannot put someone on the staff team who is not in the city, and Discord is where we come back to you either way.
Whitelist Join the DiscordNo. Question four exists so we know what you have done, not as a filter. Experience elsewhere tells us you know what the work involves, which helps, but it also sometimes means unlearning how another city did things. Writing N/A costs you nothing.
Because the role is partly about patience, and chasing it tells us something. Every application gets an answer. If you have waited more than a fortnight and genuinely heard nothing at all, that is different, and you can ask once.
No, and it is worth saying plainly. No money, no vehicles, no access to anything your character could not get otherwise, and no information from reports. Using the role to help yourself in the city is the one thing that gets someone removed with no conversation.
Less than people assume and more than it looks. A few hours a week handled properly is worth more than someone who does twelve hours one week and disappears for a fortnight. Tell us a number you can keep to.
Yes, and you should. Staff who stop playing lose track of what the city actually feels like, which makes them worse at the job. You just cannot be your character and on duty as staff at the same time.
You will, at some point, and so has everyone currently on the team. Trial staff have a mentor precisely so there is somebody to catch it. Getting a call wrong and saying so is fine. Getting it wrong and defending it is the problem.
Yes, after a month. We will tell you why, so read that first. Sending the same application back gets the same answer.
If you read all of that and the job sounds like work rather than a title, you are the person we are looking for. Go and fill the form in.
